Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day is fast approaching, Sunday April 28th this year. It’s a fun event where people from around the world take photos using any kind of pinhole camera they like, then upload their favorite of the day to an online gallery. Even if you aren’t a pinhole enthusiast, it’s worth checking out the website as the gallery progresses throughout the day with photos from participants around the globe.

There’s lot’s more information to be found on the organisers website. Be sure to check out the gallery which lets you search past events, in particular see the 2010 Ontario entries which has a few familiar names;).

A few years ago a local pinhole enthusiast, Steve Irvine, held a workshop where camera club members built their own pinhole cameras out of coffee cans. Lynn compiled the instructions into a brief pinhole tutorial for a refresher or a better idea of of the mechanics behind this sort of thing. Be sure to check out Steve’s website as well, he’s also a potter and has combined his skills to make some beautiful (and functional!) ceramic cameras.

A Special Guest in October

We have great news! Barrie photographer Don Komarechka is coming to our October meeting to do a presentation on his technique of capturing his incredible snowflake images. You won’t want to miss this one. Mark it on your calendar for October 8, 2013.

Don is working on a book that showcases his snowflake photography and currently is looking for funding to get the book to print. You can help by contributing to the cause. The more you contribute, the more you get for your money.

Sky Crystals – every one is unique. And Don Komarechka can prove it. Don is looking for funding for his new book. If you like something different, something unique, you’ll like what he does with his camera to show the world what a snowflake really looks like.

Information about the Art Banner

We recently wrote a post about the 2013 Owen Sound Art Banners and there may be some confusion regarding the submission specifications.

Artists are to submit images that are “print ready” and are to be a maximum of 2000 pixels on the longest side. The confusion lies in the other important part of a digital image size, resolution, or pixels per inch (ppi). A print ready file will have a ppi resolution of at least 240, and some folks may like to increase that number to 300. To be sure your file is accepted for consideration by the committee, go with a resolution of 300 ppi.

A New Club in Town

At our February meeting we had a guest from another “OSCC” club, the Owen Sound Competitor’s Club. Michael Seiler spoke about what his club does and if you like a little friendly competition, then this club could be for you. You can read more about it at http://burnthecouch.com.

2013 Owen Sound Art Banners

The call for the submissions for the Owen Sound Art Banner Annual Exhibition has just gone up. The winners will have their work printed on a banner that will hang from lampposts around the harbour during the summer.

Merry Christmas

Hello world! The club has been very overwhelmed over the years with the fact that we get visitors from virtually all over the globe to our little old website here in Owen Sound, Ontario. We would like to express our heartfelt thank you for all the views, comments and support. We truly love photography and we love sharing it with you just as much as we love to create it.

Soon another year will come to a close and a new year will begin. With new beginnings come new opportunities. We hope the new year brings you good health and prosperity and many new opportunities to capture this world through your lenses.
