Our first meeting of the new season is Tuesday, September 3 at the New Life Centre, located at 199 4th Avenue West in Owen Sound. There’s a map off to the right of this page to show you where we meet.
The membership fee is $35 and the doors open at 6:30 pm for a half hour of social time before the meeting gets underway at 7:00.

Sulphur Spring Conservation Area Outing, Jan 27th.
***PLEASE NOTE*** This event has been rescheduled for Sunday, Jan 27th.
In our first outing of 2019, we will be heading to the Sulphur Spring Conservation Area just south of Hanover. The sulphur spring is a must-see feature in our area – flowing year round, beautifully coloured, and stinky.
Randy will have his camera linked to his iPad a live demonstration of the effects of using a polarizer filter. Anyone else who wishes to show any gear, feel free.
Carpooling – meet at Tim Horton’s at West Side in Owen Sound by Deals at 11:30am.
If you plan to meet there -be at the Conservation area at 1pm.
$5.00 car fee – pay with MacKay Paypass system, an app for your smartphone.
Salt of the Earth, Willy Waterton at the Tom
The Camera Club was pleased to host Willy’s presentation last November, and we’re excited to see his work in print at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery until March 16! You can see a sneak peak (and more information about Willy) at the Sun Times and they look fantastic!
The opening reception is Friday night, January 11th, 7pm, and Willy will be giving a talk about the show on Saturday, Jan. 12th, at 1pm.

Salt of the Earth with Willy Waterton, Nov. 13, 2018
The Owen Sound Camera Club is hosting a presentation by Willy Waterton on Tuesday, November 13. Titled Salt of the Earth:People of Bruce Grey, it will cover both his B&W and colour work over his extensive career and will delve into the making of some of his portraits which capture the character of the local folk.
Willy’s tagline reads: “photographing the land and people for over 40 years”, and after having a taste of the ‘people’ portion, you can get a taste of the ‘land’ side at the Griffin Gallery (at the Roxy Theatre) until Jan. 13, 2019. Beautifully presented landscapes and wildlife, you’ll find inspiring canvases and prints from the polar regions and closer to home.

New Season Starts September 4, 2018

Maureen Elliott’s Display at the Full Spectrum Gallery
There is still a week left to visit the Full Spectrum Gallery (located in the back of Foto Art) and see Maureen Elliott’s “Mountain” collection.
An avid camper and traveler, Maureen takes us through some of her favourite scenes from our western Canadian National Parks and a winter excursion south across the border to Yellowstone. With an eye for colour and composition, she’s captured the rugged western landscapes and brought them back to Owen Sound. The surreal cyans of Banff’s pristine mountain lakes are a sight to behold as they are faithfully represented with quiet tranquility.
Contrasting this stillness are a few raging waterfalls, a theme Maureen often visits, exploring the interplay of rushing water and resisting rock. Scenes of cool and refreshing snow provide a welcome relief from our hot summer days. Be sure to stop in and cool off before the end of June!

“Owen Sound Harbour – A Photographic History” April 23rd Presentation by Rob Cotton
Camera club member Rob Cotton has published a new book, Owen Sound Harbour – A Photographic History. Using images from a variety of sources, primarily the Grey Bruce Image Archives, Rob has assembled a narrative of the nautical activities that helped shape Owen Sound and Ontario. A must-have book for anyone with an interest in local history, shipping, or even just old photographs. Available for $35 at Foto Art, pick one up while you can.
Congratulations Rob! It’s a beautiful production.
Rob will be giving a presentation at the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library, Monday April 23rd, about some of the harbour’s history and the creation of the book. Admission is free, doors open at 6:45 pm. Copies of the book will be available, and Rob will have his signing pen handy!
At the back of the Library’s auditorium you can also find large prints of some of the historic images from the book as well as a few of Rob’s wonderful modern black and white photos of the Owen Sound harbour.

Bill Pratt Presentation, Wed. May 2nd
We’ll be hosting a presentation by Bill Pratt Wednesday May 2nd and the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library, 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Find more details on the posters below (you can also read his Bio).
Juergen Trotz in Full Spectrum Gallery
Juergen Trotz currently has a selection of images in the Full Spectrum Gallery (located in the back of Foto Art).
Juergen has been a Camera Club member for several years, where we’ve enjoyed his cheerful company and watched him grow as a photographer. It’s not just his skill that has grown, but also the size of his prints!
“Go Big or Go Home” has become his motto, and it’s realization is on display at the Full Spectrum Gallery until the end of April. The hall is filled with prints too large for your screen to contain – an inspiration for us all to push our printing to greater heights (and widths!).
Ranging from local scenery, to wildlife, to nature, to scenes from his travels, this is a great exhibition of some of Juergen’s favorite works over the years.

John Hlynialuk speaking at Grey Roots, March 10th & 24th.
John Hlynialuk, a member of the Bluewater Astronomical Society and avid stargazer, is one of the newer members of the Camera Club. In just a few meetings, we’ve already seen his insights on the phenomena that happen over our heads and some of his astrophotography. Even ‘restricting’ him to using a mobile phone did not stop him from photographing the moon or star trails!
In March, he’s presenting two astronomy talks at the Grey Roots Museum featuring his photos plus those of other BAS members. These should be intriguing for any photographers interested in the night sky. They are free to Grey Roots Museum members, otherwise, it is the cost of admission to the museum.
