A Few Post-Workshop Post-Processing Links

Our May 5th meeting covered a wealth of information concerning the computer side of photography – both online sharing options and an introduction to a couple popular software packages used for post-processing. Here’s just a taste of what was covered and a few handy links to help you get started.

Flickr

Maureen (with Randy’s assistance) covered Flickr fundamentals and demonstrated some of the options involved when uploading photos. Anyone interested in trying it out can head to Flickr and hit the “Sign Up” button and follow the instructions. Once you have an account, be sure to find The Owen Sound Camera Club’s group on Flickr and share your work with us! Even if you have no interest in joining Flickr, you are still free to browse our uploads (and the works of millions of other creatives from around the globe).

Photoshop Elements

Randy led us through a few fundamental tasks in Photoshop Elements, which is Adobe’s basic raster editing software for photographers. Adding creative borders to your images, re-sizing, and creating watermarks were a few of the demonstrated topics.

It’s reasonably priced software (currently on sale for $80+tax at a local big box store), but anyone interested in trying it before buying can download Elements 13 for a free 30-day trial. You will need to sign up for a (free) Adobe ID account before you can access the download, and it is a very large file (1.58GB) so fair warning to those with low bandwidth limits!

Lightroom

We were shown a few examples of Bob Farla’s workflow in Lightroom (another photography centered Adobe program with extensive cataloging, batch editing, and sharing features). Bob walked us through tonal adjustments, black and white conversions, and more.

Lightroom is also available as a 30-day free trial, an Adobe ID will be required here as well (Lightroom is also a very large download). The latest version, 6, is available as both a pay-once stand alone version or packaged with the full version of Photoshop for a monthly subscription fee.

Happy processing!
